Whale and the Wolf
An independent band with 5 singles charting in the Top 40 for Canadian Active Rock, 9 months of airplay across 12 stations in different cities, over a million Spotify streams, and 22 unique Canadian cities visited on their last two tours alone. Whale and the Wolf recently teamed up with Grammy Nominated producer Jimmy Mansfield and Paul Rogers to solidify their impending rise to the top of the rock game.
Armed with a new lineup and a fresh take on the rock genre, Whale’s image needed a facelift to come out strong. Due to the inability to tour and create content collectively the band needed a solution for promotional material. Enter the black and white archival footage from their recording sessions.
Promotional Videos
Videos receive a significantly higher level of engagement over photographs. Custom tailored promotional videos helped Whale and the Wolf set the appropriate tone for each release. While the entire campaign is a highly conceptualized experience, these promo videos are a key part of each release.
Music Video & Matching Spotify Canvas
Blending animated typography with live performance, the music video for Midnight Riot follows through with the newly established brand. Showcasing the single artwork fully realized, exploding into the bridge. Matthew Barrett (Bad Thing Creative) was hired to animate the iconic drip from the single artwork.
A brief 9:16 cut of the music video was created as a Spotify Canvas. Just recently released from Beta, Canvas’ are an excellent way to further solidify your brand.
Single Artwork
Heavy emphasis was placed on creating iconic, illustration based designs for the bands recent releases. Each one unique, but deeply rooted together stylistically creating an unmistakable, unified aesthetic.
Social Media Optimization
On release day, each of Whale’s social media accounts were updated to the new brand with strict guidelines moving forward. This helped establish a strong unified social media presence for the group. In addition, typography based templates were created to contain announcements, adds to radio rotation, and tour date information.
Web Design & Content Curation
With typography being a key aspect of Whale and the Wolf’s new brand, it was important to reinforce that branding with a website redesign.
Adhering to the bands strict branding guidelines helped give the group freedom to focus on their creativity, while not worrying about staying consistent with their messaging.
